advance screening of The Terror: Infamy followed by
a panel discussion hosted by Georgia Takei about his new documentary! |
|
Set
during World War II, the haunting and suspenseful second season
of the horror-infused anthology The Terror: Infamy
centers on a series of bizarre deaths that haunt a Japanese-American
community and a young man's journey to understand and combat
the malevolent entity responsible. The series features
a cast and crew with a number of personal connections to this
historical time, starting with George Takei, who lived in
two internment camps as a child and is on board as a series
regular and consultant. The lead character is played
by Derek Mio, a fourth-generation Japanese American, whose
grandfather lived on Terminal Island and was sent to Manzanar
internment camp after Pearl Harbor. Mio also recently
appeared in the Netflix docuseries Medal of Honor,
where he portrayed WWII Medal of Honor Recipient Hiroshi Miyamura.
This exclusive advance screening of The Terror: Infamy
will be held at 3:40 p.m. in the Mercer Ballroom at the Loews
Atlanta hotel. Following the screening, at 4:30
p.m., a one-hour panel discussion featuring lead actor Derek
Mio, actor/consultant George Takei and showrunner Alexander
Woo will be presented.
The screening and panel discussion are part of REPRESENT,
a day-long program for creators of color and their allies
in news and entertainment media, presented by the Atlanta
chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA).
Tickets for the day-long program are $50 (+ $4.67) in
advance by online purchase or $75 (+ $6.20) at the door. There
is no discount available for attending only the screening
and panel discussion.

PROLOGUE:
The Wrath of Con: This scripted comedy explored the
eccentric, outlandish and yet exceptionally human realm of
sci-fi fandom. Luckily, here at Dad's Garage, we have
first-hand experience with this subject matter... on account
of the fact that we're all giant nerds! The Wrath
of Con had amazing musical numbers, "celebrity" sightings
and a ridiculous amount of references all rolled into one
show!
AND NOW: Wrath of Con 2: Into Dorkness: The
legendary Dad's Garage play now has a sequel coming September
2019. Are you ready for the dorkness?
Yes! We are! Join us! Tickets are $21.50
in advance; link given below. Purchase your ticket
for the Saturday, September 14 performance, then confirm your
attendance on the Facebook event page linked below. Costumes

again been challenged by our sister ship in Region 2, the
USS
Appalachia! Capt. Tiffany Johnson and
her merry crew of misfits from Blue Ridge, Georgia, will take
their own "away mission" down to Atlanta to join us for a
two-game tournament to determine which crew is the better
bowlers! |
|

and friends of the USS Republic and the USS Appalachia
teamed up and faced off for two games at the 13th annual
STARFLEET Bowling Challenge last year. Left to right:
Tiffany Johnson, Oshia Smith, Matthew P. Steinberg, Lee
Johnson, Ron Ramspeck, Gaylen Greve, Eric L. Watts, Kevon
Daley, John May, Tracey S. Harwell, Carly May.

RULES FOR PARTICIPATING
All players are welcome! You do not have to be
a member of STARFLEET, the Republic or the Appalachia
to play! Just come on down and join us for an evening
of fun and friendly competition!
The game fee is $20.00 per person for two hours of
bowling and includes shoe rental. CASH ONLY, PLEASE,
and please pay the Republic, who has already paid for
the lane rental, UPON ARRIVAL. There is no discount
for bringing your own shoes or ball. We have rented
two lanes for two hours which accommodate up to six players

"Going" on our Facebook event page. Then, please
arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. to pay for play, get your shoes
and choose your ball. First ball rolls promptly at 7:00
p.m., so please arrive early and be ready to roll (literally)

Midtown
Bowl's food grill offers a broad range of menu items

The now-legendary 2007 Bowling Challenge was a huge media
event with lots of TV cameras and all the challenges since
then have been just as much fun, if perhaps not as well-attended.
This is a "costume encouraged" event, so plan to wear
your best Star Trek costume, USS Republic sport
shirt or t-shirt, or some other Star Trek-themed clothing,
for this fun-filled family-friendly event! |

ABOUT
THE REPUBLIC
|
The
USS Republic NCC-1371 was originally commissioned
as a chapter of STARFLEET International on May 14, 1988,
at the Dixie-Trek convention in Atlanta, Georgia. As
of July 31, 2019, the Republic crew includes 39
members who are active members of STARFLEET in good
standing.
|
The
Republic plans and coordinates an active schedule
of events for its members, but does not hold meetings
on a consistently fixed date each month.
|
Because
the USS Republic is a duly commissioned chapter
of STARFLEET International and is bound and governed by
its Constitution and By-Laws, membership in STARFLEET
is a prerequisite for membership in the Republic. STARFLEET
membership dues are $5 for one person and Republic
chapter dues are $10 ($15 total). The Republic
collects a single combined dues payment for both groups
and remits the STARFLEET portion to them on the Republic
member's behalf. STARFLEET offers family discounts
for additional members as shown below. Additional
information about membership options, amounts due for
additional family members, payment options and instructions
for other forms of payment is on the "How to Join" page
of our award-winning web site.
