ABOUT
THE REPUBLIC
|
The
USS Republic NCC-1371 is a chapter of STARFLEET International
(SFI) and a member of STARFLEET Region 2. Commissioned
on May 14, 1988 at Dixie-Trek, the Republic currently
has 52 members (as of May 11) and is the largest STARFLEET
meeting chapter in the world. The Republic
plans and coordinates an active schedule of events for its
members, frequently partnering with other local science fiction
groups in the Atlanta area for joint activities, but does
not hold meetings on a consistently fixed date each month.
Membership in the Republic includes membership in STARFLEET
International. Annual dues are $25 per person for both
groups (family discounts are available with certain conditions
and restrictions). Membership in the Republic
includes a subscription to our award-winning quarterly paper
newsletter, The Sovereign Star, access to our YahooGroups
message board, voting privileges in chapter elections and
a personalized laminated membership card which entitles the
member to receive discounts or rebates on products and services
offered by our Member Benefits Program Partners. Additional
information on Republic membership and how to join
can be found on our award-winning web site. |

Mystery
Star Trek Theater
7:00
p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008
Hosted by Lt JG David Churvis
412 Ivey Park Lane, Norcross GA 30092 |
Join
us for the second month of our exciting new event where we watch a
truly awful episode of Star Trek on Lt. Churvis' bigscreen
TV, followed by a truly awful movie! Comments from the
peanut gallery are STRONGLY encouraged; in fact, if you don't say
anything, you're doing it wrong! This month's episode selection
is the Original Series episode "Spock's Brain," in which an evil female
boards the Enterprise, knocks everyone unconscious and literally
steals Spock's brain. Then, we'll hoot and heckle another awful
movie from Lt. Churvis' video library. It's guaranteed to be
a night of hysterical shenanigans! Some food and drinks will
be provided, but bring something to share if you'd like.
Lt. Churvis' apartment complex is called Ivey Brook (although the
sign looks like "Joey Brook" to many). The gate code is 235.

Star
Trek Night with the Atlanta OutWorlders
8:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008
Hosted by and in the home of Alan Siler
2582 Addison Drive, Doraville GA 30340 |
Let's
join our friends, the Atlanta
OutWorlders, for a night each month that celebrates the quintessential
American science fiction television franchise: Star Trek. Each
month, we'll explore a different theme by seeing episodes taken from
all of the show's TV incarnations: Star Trek, The Animated
Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager
and yes... even Enterprise. Few television shows, particularly
sci-fi, have had the impact on American culture that Star Trek
has had. For the month of May, the theme is "Skewed Perspectives."
Driving Directions:
Take I-85 to the Chamblee-Tucker Rd. exit
(that’s the first exit inside I-285 on the NE side of the city). If
you’re traveling N on I-85, you would turn left onto Chamblee-Tucker.
Go through the first light, turn right at
the second light (Shallowford Rd).
Take the immediate next right turn onto Addison
Dr.
Go through the first stop sign; we’re the
5th house on the left. Mailbox has very reflective numbers.

addition to the $5.00 discount off the regular Sci-Fi Summer Con membership
rate, the Republic is also offering a limited edition Party
Pack for attendees of our Celebration who purchase their SFSC memberships
through the Republic. This exclusive party park
will include a 20th Year Celebration t-shirt, a commemorative key

dance party, and a raffle ticket for your chance to win some of our
great door prizes, to be given out at that same party. The

George
Takei calls Atlanta's Q100, mentions Captain Watts on the air! |
On
Tuesday, May 6, none other than Captain Hikaru Sulu himself, George
Takei, called "The Bert Show" morning program on Atlanta
radio station Q100 (99.7 FM, formerly 99X) to participate in their
"Who Do You Know?" contest. At stake: a $10,000 grand
prize to the person who gets the "biggest celebrity" to
call the show while it's on the air and mention the name of the person
who asked him or her to call, and a $5,000 donation to the charity
of that celebrity's choice. Second place winner gets a
gold and diamond necklace valued at $5,000 with a $1,000 donation
to that celebrity's favorite charity. When Takei called
the program, he mentioned our very own commanding officer, Captain
Eric L. Watts, and plugged his upcoming appearance at this
year's Dragon*Con. Capt Watts worked with Takei on the
set of Star
Trek: New Voyages during the filming of the award-winning
episode "World Enough and Time" in 2006. Click
here to hear the phone call!
The celebrity winners of the contest,
announced May 13, were pop star Justin Timberlake and legendary
boxer Muhammad Ali. |
