The USS Republic NCC-1371 is a chapter of STARFLEET International (SFI) and a member of STARFLEET Region 2.  Commissioned on May 14, 1988 at Dixie-Trek, the Republic currently has 52 members (as of May 11) and is the largest STARFLEET meeting chapter in the world.  The Republic plans and coordinates an active schedule of events for its members, frequently partnering with other local science fiction groups in the Atlanta area for joint activities, but does not hold meetings on a consistently fixed date each month.

Membership in the Republic includes membership in STARFLEET International.  Annual dues are $25 per person for both groups (family discounts are available with certain conditions and restrictions).  Membership in the Republic includes a subscription to our award-winning quarterly paper newsletter, The Sovereign Star, access to our YahooGroups message board, voting privileges in chapter elections and a personalized laminated membership card which entitles the member to receive discounts or rebates on products and services offered by our Member Benefits Program Partners.  Additional information on Republic membership and how to join can be found on our award-winning web site.

Mystery Star Trek Theater

7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008
Hosted by Lt JG David Churvis
412 Ivey Park Lane, Norcross GA  30092
Join us for the second month of our exciting new event where we watch a truly awful episode of Star Trek on Lt. Churvis' bigscreen TV, followed by a truly awful movie!  Comments from the peanut gallery are STRONGLY encouraged; in fact, if you don't say anything, you're doing it wrong!  This month's episode selection is the Original Series episode "Spock's Brain," in which an evil female boards the Enterprise, knocks everyone unconscious and literally steals Spock's brain.  Then, we'll hoot and heckle another awful movie from Lt. Churvis' video library.  It's guaranteed to be a night of hysterical shenanigans!  Some food and drinks will be provided, but bring something to share if you'd like.

Lt. Churvis' apartment complex is called Ivey Brook (although the sign looks like "Joey Brook" to many). The gate code is 235.
Deadline to pre-reg for Sci-Fi Summer Con is next week!
Are you planning to attend the USS Republic's 20th Year Celebration (1988-2008) at Sci-Fi Summer Con?  (Details below!)  Have you purchased your membership and/or one of our exclusives Party Packs yet?  (Details below!)  If not, time is running out to take advantage of the Republic's 25% group discount off the current individual preregistration rate of $20 and/or to preorder your Party Pack.  You do not have to be a member of the Republic to take advantage of this offer!  To receive this discount, you must purchase your Sci-Fi Summer Con membership through the Republic web site.  Your payment will be forwarded to and processed by Sci-Fi Summer Con management.
TimeGate '08

Holiday Inn Select
4386 Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta GA  30341

For the third consecutive year, the Republic will have an official presence at TimeGate, including a fan table and participation in several programming events.  Hosted by our friends Stargate Atlanta and the Atlanta Gallifreyans, this sci-fi con is devoted to Stargate, Doctor Who, "and everything in-between"!  The Republic needs help manning our fan table during the convention.  Please contact Captain Watts if you'd like to help!  We look forward to seeing you there!

Star Trek Night with the Atlanta OutWorlders

8:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2008
Hosted by and in the home of Alan Siler
2582 Addison Drive, Doraville GA  30340
Let's join our friends, the Atlanta OutWorlders, for a night each month that celebrates the quintessential American science fiction television franchise: Star Trek. Each month, we'll explore a different theme by seeing episodes taken from all of the show's TV incarnations: Star Trek, The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and yes... even Enterprise.  Few television shows, particularly sci-fi, have had the impact on American culture that Star Trek has had.  For the month of May, the theme is "Skewed Perspectives."

Driving Directions:
•  Take I-85 to the Chamblee-Tucker Rd. exit (that’s the first exit inside I-285 on the NE side of the city). If you’re traveling N on I-85, you would turn left onto Chamblee-Tucker.
•  Go through the first light, turn right at the second light (Shallowford Rd).
•  Take the immediate next right turn onto Addison Dr.
•  Go through the first stop sign; we’re the 5th house on the left.  Mailbox has very reflective numbers.
USS Republic's 20th Year Celebration 1988-2008
Hosted by Sci-Fi Summer Con

Friday–Sunday, June 6-8, 2008
Crowne Plaza Marietta
1775 Parkway Place, Marietta GA  30067
The USS Republic was commissioned as a chapter of STARFLEET International on May 14, 1988.  We will be celebrating not only our 20th Year, but also our BEST year EVER as one of the largest chapters in all of STARFLEET, at Sci-Fi Summer Con.  This celebration will include a STARFLEET reception on Friday night, a Star Trek dance party on Saturday night, a professional photography studio where you can get a FREE 8 x 10 color portrait of yourself in your best Star Trek costume or STARFLEET uniform, and two days of ongoing discussion panels and presentations dedicated exclusively to Star Trek and STARFLEET throughout the weekend, which will be in addition to Sci-Fi Summer's regular track of programming dedicated to other, general sci-fi genres.  Come and help make 2008 the Republic's and Sci-Fi Summer Con's BEST year EVER!  To see the programming events we've got planned for Sci-Fi Summer, please click here.
20th Year Celebration Party Packs
In addition to the $5.00 discount off the regular Sci-Fi Summer Con membership rate, the Republic is also offering a limited edition Party Pack for attendees of our Celebration who purchase their SFSC memberships through the Republic.  This exclusive party park will include a 20th Year Celebration t-shirt, a commemorative key chain, a "really cool" party favor for the Saturday night dance party, and a raffle ticket for your chance to win some of our great door prizes, to be given out at that same party.  The 20th Year t-shirt, available in all sizes from Small to 4X, is a 100% preshrunk cotton tee with the two-color USS Republic 20th Year Celebration logo screenprinted on the full chest.  This exclusive party pack will be available only from the Republic's web site, only until May 20, and for only $15.00!  Be advised: These items will not be available for sale at the convention!  Those who place their orders before May 20 will be able to pick up their Party Pack with their SFSC registration packet.  Many conventions charge more than $15.00 for just a t-shirt, so the Republic's party pack is a fantastic value!  Don't wait... order yours today from the Republic web site.  The proceeds from these Party Packs will help us present an outstanding STARFLEET Reception on SFSC's Friday evening, June 6.  Thank you for your support!

George Takei calls Atlanta's Q100, mentions Captain Watts on the air!
On Tuesday, May 6, none other than Captain Hikaru Sulu himself, George Takei, called "The Bert Show" morning program on Atlanta radio station Q100 (99.7 FM, formerly 99X) to participate in their "Who Do You Know?" contest.  At stake: a $10,000 grand prize to the person who gets the "biggest celebrity" to call the show while it's on the air and mention the name of the person who asked him or her to call, and a $5,000 donation to the charity of that celebrity's choice.  Second place winner gets a gold and diamond necklace valued at $5,000 with a $1,000 donation to that celebrity's favorite charity.  When Takei called the program, he mentioned our very own commanding officer, Captain Eric L. Watts, and plugged his upcoming appearance at this year's Dragon*Con.  Capt Watts worked with Takei on the set of Star Trek: New Voyages during the filming of the award-winning episode "World Enough and Time" in 2006.  Click here to hear the phone call!
The celebrity winners of the contest, announced May 13, were pop star Justin Timberlake and legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.
